What is Botox (botulinum toxin)?

Botulinum toxin is a purified protein injected in very small amounts into specific facial muscles. It reduces the muscle movement that creates lines such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. It is a prescription medicine and is only administered after a medical consultation.

May help with

  • Frown lines between the brows
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Crow's feet around the eyes

Who it may suit

  • Adults with lines that appear or deepen with expression
  • People in good general health with realistic expectations

What we assess first

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis
  • Infection or inflammation at the injection site
  • Lines present at rest that may need a different approach

How does Botox (botulinum toxin) work?

The toxin temporarily blocks the signal between nerve and muscle at the injection point. With less movement, overlying skin creases less, and existing lines may appear softer. The effect wears off gradually as nerve signalling recovers.

What happens during the appointment?

After cleansing, your practitioner marks the injection points and uses a very fine needle for a small number of injections. Most people describe brief pinching. You can usually return to normal activities straight away.

Every plan starts with a consultation with Dr. Mariam Al Suwaidi or another member of the medical team. Read our patient information before your visit.

How should I prepare?

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment.
  • Inform us of any blood-thinning medication or supplements.
  • Plan treatment at least two weeks before an important event.

What aftercare is needed?

  • Stay upright for four hours.
  • Do not rub or massage the area for 24 hours.
  • Avoid exercise, saunas and facials for 24 hours.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Effects usually begin within 3–5 days and develop over about two weeks. Results commonly last around three to four months but vary between individuals. Treatment softens lines; it does not stop ageing, and deep static lines may not resolve fully.

Typical duration of results: 3–4 months. Price: From AED 1,200 per area.

What are the risks and side effects?

  • Temporary redness, swelling or bruising at injection points
  • Headache
  • Uncommonly, temporary eyelid or brow heaviness
  • Asymmetry that may need review

Frequently asked questions

Is a review appointment included?

A review at around two weeks is part of every first botulinum toxin treatment at Luméra, so your practitioner can assess the result and make a small adjustment if needed.

Will I still be able to move my face?

Yes. Doses are planned to soften movement in targeted areas while keeping natural expression.

How long does Botox last?

Botox (botulinum toxin) usually starts to work within 3–5 days, reaches its full effect at about two weeks and lasts around three to four months. Muscle movement then returns gradually. Some people find results last longer after several regular treatments, but this varies between individuals.

How much does Botox cost in Dubai?

At Luméra Clinic, Botox (botulinum toxin) starts from AED 1,200 per treatment area, such as the frown lines or forehead. The final price depends on the number of areas and the dose you need, and your doctor confirms it in writing at your consultation before any treatment.

Is Botox the same as botulinum toxin?

Botox is the best-known brand name for botulinum toxin type A, a prescription medicine. Several licensed brands exist, and they work in a similar way. At Luméra your doctor chooses a product approved for use in the UAE and explains which one is used and why.
