What is dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are medical devices injected beneath the skin to replace lost volume, improve contour or soften folds. Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most commonly used type and can, in many cases, be dissolved if needed.

May help with

  • Volume loss in the cheeks or temples
  • Nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Lip definition and hydration
  • Chin and jawline balance

Who it may suit

  • Adults with age-related or natural volume loss
  • People seeking subtle, proportionate change

What we assess first

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active skin infection, cold sores or recent dental work
  • Autoimmune conditions or previous filler complications
  • Concerns that may be better addressed surgically

How does dermal filler work?

The gel is placed at specific depths using a needle or blunt cannula. Hyaluronic acid binds water, adding volume and support. Over time it is gradually broken down by the body.

What happens during the appointment?

After photographs (with your consent) and cleansing, a numbing cream may be applied. Most fillers also contain local anaesthetic. Your practitioner injects small amounts, assessing symmetry throughout.

Every plan starts with a consultation with Dr. Mariam Al Suwaidi or another member of the medical team. Read our patient information before your visit.

How should I prepare?

  • Avoid blood-thinning supplements for a week, if medically safe.
  • Postpone treatment if you have a cold sore or infection.
  • Avoid dental treatment for two weeks before and after.

What aftercare is needed?

  • Avoid pressure on the area and sleep slightly elevated the first night.
  • No make-up for 12 hours, and no heat or exercise for 48 hours.
  • Contact us immediately about severe pain, blanching or skin colour change.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Changes are visible immediately, with the final result after swelling settles in about two weeks. Longevity depends on the product, area and individual, commonly ranging from six to eighteen months.

Typical duration of results: 6–18 months, by product and area. Price: From AED 1,800 per syringe.

What are the risks and side effects?

  • Swelling, tenderness and bruising
  • Lumps or asymmetry
  • Infection
  • Rarely, vascular occlusion — a serious complication requiring urgent treatment

Frequently asked questions

Can filler be reversed?

Hyaluronic acid fillers can usually be dissolved with an enzyme. This is assessed case by case.

Which brands do you use?

The clinic will list the approved products it uses here once confirmed.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers usually last six to eighteen months. Lip filler tends to fade sooner, often around six to nine months, while cheek and jawline filler can last a year or more. Longevity also depends on the product, your metabolism and how much movement the area has.

Can dermal fillers be reversed?

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This is used if a result is uneven or, rarely, to treat a complication. Luméra uses reversible hyaluronic acid fillers for the face and lips and keeps the enzyme on site.

How much do lip fillers cost in Dubai?

At Luméra Clinic, dermal fillers, including lip fillers, start from AED 1,800 per syringe. Many first lip treatments use half to one syringe. Your doctor recommends an amount at consultation and confirms the full price in writing before treatment, so there are no surprises on the day.
